Counselors will learn how to help clients undergo the powerful profess of life recovery.\r\n\r\nPresenters<\/span><\/strong>\r\n\r\nStephen Arterburn, M.A. and David Stoop, Ph.D.\r\n\r\n\r\nCourse Lessons<\/span><\/strong>\r\n\r\nLRC 101: Step One\u2014Admitting Powerlessness and the Unmanageability of the Problem<\/strong>\r\n\r\nThis session introduces the first step: Awareness. Awareness involves an important paradox that involves the admission of one\u2019s powerlessness to find strength. Although one may be powerless over addiction, he or she is not helpless. Coaches have a unique opportunity to raise an individual\u2019s awareness and acceptance of the unmanageability in his or her life as a result of the addiction.\r\n\r\nLRC 102: Step Two\u2014The Role of Faith in the Restoration of Sanity<\/strong>\r\n\r\nStep two involves three different levels that ultimately lead to a spiritual journey. Coaches have the unique opportunity to start individuals on their spiritual journeys as the requirement of faith in this step results in hope and experiencing God as the highest power.\r\n\r\nLRC 103: Step Three\u2014The Decision and Willingness to Surrender<\/strong>\r\n\r\nThe third step in recovery requires a willingness to surrender through action. The decision to surrender involves one\u2019s will and life. Through the process of surrender, a person may have to redefine who God is in his or her life.\r\n\r\nLRC 104: Step Four\u2014Life Assessment: A Fearless Moral Inventory<\/strong>\r\n\r\nStep four encompasses reality and self-evaluation. It involves looking realistically, in truth and understanding, at personal shortcomings. In doing so, one must be honest, unselfish, pure, and loving.\r\n\r\nLRC 105: Step Five\u2014Admitting One\u2019s Wrongs<\/strong>\r\n\r\nThis session introduces step five while providing a biblically sound understanding and model of how to confess to others. Many people do not believe their behavior affects others, but it does. Actions can hurt others, our relationship with God and ourselves.\r\n\r\nLRC 106: Step Six\u2014Allowing God to Remove Character Defects<\/strong>\r\n\r\nStep six introduces the willingness for change. In this step, one combines faith and insight to develop the readiness for change. This readiness is a humbling before God. Although many people want lasting change, relapse is a harsh reality. It is important to educate those in recovery on the basic components and initial stages of relapse.\r\n\r\nLRC 107: Step Seven\u2014Removing Inadequacies: The Humble Request<\/strong>\r\n\r\nThis session overviews the seventh step in the recovery model, and explains the foundations for the twelve steps while overviewing the steps that have been covered up to this point. The maturing and the building of character is an important characteristic of the seventh step as one is humbly asking God to remove his or her shortcomings.\r\n\r\nLRC 108: Step Eight\u2014Making the List<\/strong>\r\n\r\nStep eight involves composing a list of all those who have been affected by one\u2019s actions. This step can develop a brokenness that heals and releases one from the chains and shame of his or her past. This is a vital step to the person\u2019s freedom.\r\n\r\nLRC 109: Step Nine\u2014Making Appropriate Amends<\/strong>\r\n\r\nStep nine involves the action of making amends with those that have been impacted by one\u2019s actions. During this step, the major obstacle involves avoiding the human tendency to rationalize and become defensive.\r\n\r\nLRC 110: Step Ten\u2014Continuing the Personal Inventory<\/strong>\r\n\r\nThis session introduces step ten. In this step, one is called to persevere and stay the course. As a lifelong process, recovery requires that an individual is consistently aware of what each step entails as he or she continually does them. During this step of perseverance, preservation becomes an important component of the recovery process.\r\n\r\nLRC 111: Step Eleven\u2014A New Level of Intimacy<\/strong>\r\n\r\nStep eleven focuses on one\u2019s intimate relationship with God. Throughout the previous ten steps, one has been progressing through inventories, confessions, making amends, and letting others see what is inside of him or her. This session will discuss the importance of the Serenity Prayer and its individual components that are particularly pivotal throughout the healing and recovery process.\r\n\r\nLRC 112: Step Twelve\u2014Living and Relaying the Message<\/strong>\r\n\r\nIn this final session, step twelve is introduced. Step twelve involves helping others because one has been helped. The coach is not only helping an individual in terms of his or her temporal life, but the coach is also helping the individual in terms of his or her eternal life.
