Summary<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mental health professionals are often taught the principles of attachment theory, but in Affairs and Sexual Betrayal 2.0, they will be able to identify the attachment elements which can be shattered in the moments of betrayal. Participants will also learn the different categories of infidelity and how they affect the couples. Mental Health Professionals will also be able to analyze seven themes that can be utilized in therapy sessions and how to use practical tools to help couples determine if there is enough left in the marriage to save.<\/p>\n

    Attachment theory helps us understand what has been injured and what must be restored following marital infidelity.\u00a0 The betrayed spouse must have a series of corrective experiences, which are only made possible by a dramatic shift in the posture of the offending spouse.\u00a0 Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy is proven to heal the attachment injury that was sustained during betrayal.\u00a0 The Attachment Injury Resolution Model was designed to heal these wounds.<\/p>\n

    Sexual betrayal goes deeper than the knowledge of the physical act. Betrayal reaches deep and impacts many areas of life. In this lecture, Dr. Sherri Keffer will discuss the types of trauma that can arise from intimate partner betrayal and cover tools and techniques that can be used to help clients work through their pain and find healing. This presentation will help counselors discover ways to help those impacted by sexual betrayal live again by recapturing their true identity and restoring their brains, bodies and minds to health.<\/p>\n

    Sexual infidelity is an epidemic with over half the population acknowledging this behavior. With evidence-based treatment hard to come by and the entire treatment field less than 30 years old, counselors struggle finding efficient and effective interventions. However, treatment pioneers have surfaced seven, clinical themes or practices that have proven helpful for couples considering recovery. Organized treatment builds confidence, helps contain anger, lowers couple anxiety, and provides measurable progress. An unexpected benefit of this treatment structure has been the restoration of respect and trust between the spouses, even when the marriage has not been restored.<\/p>\n
