Suicide is the second leading cause of death among youth aged 15-24. With mental health issues in youth on the rise, it is critical for anyone who interacts with children, teens, or young adults to be aware of the issues contributing to suicide risk. It is even more vital for parents, teachers, youth pastors, and leaders to know how to talk about suicide, take active steps to prevent suicide, and intervene effectively with young people who may be suicidal.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Presenter<\/span><\/b>\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    Jennifer Cisney Ellers, M.A.,\u202f<\/span><\/b>is a professional counselor, life coach, crisis response trainer, author and speaker. She speaks extensively and provides training, counseling, and coaching in the field of grief, crisis and trauma through the Institute for Compassionate Care. Jennifer is an approved instructor for the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation, teaching several CISM courses. In addition, she serves on the Executive Board and as Director of the Grief, Crisis and Disaster Network of the American Association of Christian Counselors and Clinical Director for the Crisis Response Team of the United States Concealed Carry Association. Jennifer is the co-author of The First 48 Hours: Spiritual Caregivers as First Responders and Spiritual and Psychological First Aid, and Understanding Suicide: Effective Tools for Prevention, Intervention, and Survivor Support.\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    It is critical to look at the data on suicide and factors impacting suicidal behavior in youth. This session provides an overview of demographics and warning signs for suicide in children, adolescents, and young adults.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    YHF3R 102:\u202fRespond<\/span><\/b>\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    This session covers five major issues that significantly increase the risk for suicidal ideation and attempts in youth. The problems of bullying, sexual violence, sexual identity issues, and along with mental health issues such as depression and addiction will be reviewed with response guidelines. It will also address media and social media issues impacting suicide in youth, along with guidelines for talking with youth about suicide.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
