\u201cWe live in a disconnected, connected world,\u201d but since the COVID-19 pandemic, it has become a major hurdle for people.\u00a0 Recent studies and surveys have reported anywhere from 46-61% of the participants indicated they were moderate to significantly lonely. Many clients of mental health professionals may have hundreds, if not thousands, of online friends, without being genuinely seen by anyone. <\/span>Social Isolation and Loneliness 2.0<\/span><\/b> will explore the complexities of loneliness and social isolation, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, and therapeutic responses to help alleviate loneliness and social isolation in children, adolescents, and adults.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    Social Isolation and loneliness are growing public health concerns, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. In this lesson, Dr. Mark Mayfield will discuss the definitions and distinctions of social isolation and loneliness and how they impact a client\u2019s physical and mental health.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    For years, most thought loneliness and social isolation only affected older populations. However, life today is unlike any period in human history. The rise of Internet usage has transformed how Americans work, play, shop, communicate and relate. People are increasingly connected digitally, but the prevalence of loneliness and social isolation also appear to be rising. This lesson will discuss how mental health professionals can be aware of the risks and implications of these issues on mental, physical, and spiritual health.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    This lesson will discuss effective therapeutic interventions and wellness strategies for clients struggling with loneliness and social isolation. Attention will be given to evidence-based treatment strategies for different population groups.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    Mark Mayfield, Ph.D., is an author, speaker, leadership coach, and professor. He has extensive experience in executive leadership as the former founder and CEO of Mayfield Counseling Centers, a 501c3 non-profit in Colorado Springs which serves over 25,000 appointments a year. Dr. Mayfield is an executive leadership coach, helping churches and organizations navigate the complexities of their mental and emotional health. He is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Mental Health Counseling at CCU.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
