Course Lessons

CCST 101: Elements of Effective Helping Relationships

Eric Scalise, Ph.D. and Ken Nichols, Psy.D.

This session explores multiple components that create a positive therapeutic relationship such as: empathy, genuineness, concreteness, self-disclosure and immediacy. As counselors, we have to figure out how to bear the client’s burdens while also allowing him or her to find reward in participating in the process. Common pitfalls are discussed and biblical principles are applied to the initial building of a therapeutic alliance.

CCST 102: The Incredible Power of Intentional Listening

Eric Scalise, Ph.D. and Ken Nichols, Psy.D.

The heart of true listening comes from biblical wisdom. Distinctly different from social conversation, listening in the counseling office is an active process. There are nuances that will enable a counselor to approach certain populations and clients differently in their listening techniques.

CCST 103: Counselor Responses that Influence the Helping Process

Eric Scalise, Ph.D. and Ken Nichols, Psy.D.

One of the primary responsibilities of a biblical counselor is to understand the goal in terms of life change. Life change does not come exclusively through direction and recommendations. Life change comes from a gradual, patient process of influence.
