Ethics and Risk Management 2.0 addresses important risk management, dual relationships and suicide assessment—issues that represent significant challenges for most every counselor and counseling ministries. Our goal is to help you offer more effective Christ-centered care and counsel.

Course Lessons

ERM 101: Legal and Ethical Risk Management
John Sandy, J.D.
Church leaders need to be aware of the legal risks associated with spiritual care ministries, and they need to take preventative steps to protect the church and its workers from unnecessary legal liability. This session overviews the implementation of policies and procedures that reduce the risk for liability among lay counseling ministries.

ERM 102: Dual and Multiple Relationships for Counselors
Lois Dodds, Ph.D.
For counselors, understanding the role of dual relationships is critical. As a Christian, the call to love implores the question of how to enter into a meaningful relationship with a client without crossing ethical boundaries. This session explores the role of the counselor as part of the Body of Christ and his or her duty to be in relationship with clients while maintaining an adherence to current ethical standards.

ERM 103: Suicide Risk Assessment
Derrick Stevenson, Ph.D.
Suicide is of high concern among the United States’ population. This session goes over statistics, definitions and considerations of suicide. There are certain predictors of suicide, but no single predictor or assessment will always be indicative of suicide or a suicide attempt because it is statistically impossible to predict with 100% accuracy.
