Course Lessons

SCBC 101: Developing Biblically-based Counseling Approaches
Ian Jones, Ph.D., Ph.D.
Christian counselors need to use biblical wisdom in assessing and developing approaches to counseling. This requires an active faith, knowledge of the Bible, hermeneutics, theology, and a knowledge of counseling, psychology, scientific research, and the underlying assumptions and worldviews in all these areas. Failure to do so can lead to consequences that may undermine biblical truth.

SCBC 102: Spirituality and Counseling – Resources and Personal Development
Ian Jones, Ph.D., Ph.D.
The spiritual development of both the counselor and counselee are important to the therapeutic process. Further, biblical aspects and resources should be applied to counseling. Scriptures form the basis of biblically based counseling, and the Scriptures need to be alive in the counselor in order to engage in biblically saturated counseling.

SCBC 103: Developing a Counseling Program in Your Church
Ian Jones, Ph.D., Ph.D.
Studies have indicated the effectiveness of lay counseling. Furthermore, studies have shown that lay helpers equal or surpass the effectiveness of professional therapists. Professional training is not the primary means for developing competence in helping people. Rather, personal characteristics have shown to be the greatest factors that lead to competence as a counselor.
