Assessment and Treatment of Trauma 2.0 is intended for professional counselors that either have limited training in trauma treatment or want to refresh their assessment and counseling skills related to trauma. This course will discuss evidence-based practices for the assessment and treatment of adults and children with Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), Complex Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (C-PTSD), (which is only in the ICD-11 and not in the DSM-5TR). The BASK model of dissociation will be presented, and the DSM-5TR dissociative symptom areas will be discussed as aids to assessment and treatment of C-PTSD and DID. Differing approaches to doing trauma work with children versus adults will also be addressed.

  2. Compare and contrast treatment approaches for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Complex Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (C-PTSD), and Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) 
  3. Recognize dissociative symptoms and apply this knowledge in working with trauma survivors 
  4. Discuss differing approaches to doing trauma work with children vs. adults 

Course Presenter 

Heather Davediuk Gingrich, Ph.D., is the coordinator of the Graduate Certificate in Trauma Therapy at Toccoa Falls College School of Graduate Studies. Dr. Gingrich specializes in the treatment of complex trauma, including adult survivors of abuse, and has done research, writing, and clinical work in the area of dissociative disorders and trauma. She is the author of Restoring the Shattered Self and coauthor of Skills for Effective Counseling.
